>> katie: very good saturday morning to you all. i'm katie marzullo. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with lisa argen. >> good morning to you. it looks like this is the fleibs in santa cruz. the air quality will be going downhill. high in the lower 90 inmates santa cruz. the beaches to the north around the bay area will be comfortable in the 70s, poor air quality for inland east bay as the excessive heat warning gets underway through 7:00 on tuesday, that is four days of excessive heat and inland temperatures could go over hundred degrees. to near 90 and record in oakland. 77 in point reyes.

75 half moon bay, inland, not only do we have warmer than yesterday, two-four degrees warmer and this will be the case right on through tuesday, but we do have some cooling in the seven day outlook. that includes the 4th of july. >> same-sex weddings are happening in california. san francisco will resume issuing marriage licenses at 9:00 this morning and until 5:00 this evening. couples wasted no time as soon as the court gave the go ahead. they were plaintiffs in the prop 8 case were the first to get married at san francisco city hall. sergio quintana reports. >> i now declare you spouses for life. >> this is moment chris and sandy and four sons have been waiting for. it took nine years and supreme court decision to get here. they are the first same-sex

couple to marry in california since the supreme court invalidated proposition 8. they were at the san francisco county clerk's office minutes within the appeals lifted a stay in this case. it was surprise for everyone. >> did you think they were going to lift the order so quickly? >> no, not at all. we woke up this morning and went to work. >> fact that we can get married so quickly is joyous occasion their son was the ring bearer. this all happened so fast. california attorney general pamela harris officiated. >> i was very direct and informing the clerk that the marriages are to begin immediately. >> within minutes of them tying the knot dozens of other couples did the same things. for hours they erupted in cheers. a line of people waiting

for 80 licenses were issued. >> it doesn't matter what this county clerk says. >> just before they went to city hall. they were overwhelmed. they were the guest of honor by short performance for san francisco gay men's court. >> the other plaintiffs in the prop 8 lawsuit from southern california also tied the knot. >> on behalf of the state of california let me pronounce you married clears cheers doctor. [ cheers and applause ] >> they were married at los angeles city hall. the mayoral performed the ceremony. it only strengthened their resolve to get married. in alameda county several couples left the courthouse to get married. first couple, julian and

to ask the court to rehear the case. attorney general pamela harris spoke about the court's quick decision. >> it's been a very long time. they shouldn't have to wait any longer. i think the 9th circuit made that statement when they lifted the stay as quickly as they did. >> legal experts say they know of no instance to grant a rehearing after a full ruling. >> late yesterday we spoke with the lawyer who help get the initiative on the ballot to ban gay marriage. he said this decision was an abuse of power. >> we think it's an outrage. it's a chronic pattern of lawlessness that we suffered throughout this case. you are up against corruption at the highest levels have government and even in the courts. the people should be afraid.

and those are not components of negotiating. >> they have stalled on wages, pensions and healthcare. unions wanted a 5% raise for three years but bart is only offering a 1% raise. >> san francisco officials are getting ready for major gridlock. this is video from 1997 last time bart shut down because of a strike. the biggest concern, san francisco police say is going monday evening. >> monday afternoon and to follow, we'll do whatever we can to get people home. day to day it's 200,000 in and out. >> police department is working with the mayor. one idea to keep track of it is have extra officers directing traffic.

if there is a strike and they pile on to the crowded freeways, it will create a big problem for bay area businesses and workers. here is more. >> andre is the owner of the flower shop at the flower mart in san francisco. he is concerned that a bart strike will cause so much traffic that his flower deliveries could be delayed. >> maybe deliveries when there is nobody on the road which is early morning or middle of the day on or at night. >> the daily riders are going to have to find ways to get around the bay area. there is a concern about the problems but may cause this limousine owner an opportunity. >> he welcomes strike. last time they went on strike, his limousines were booked by still wouldn't

get in their own cars to commute. >> they don't want to drive. they use our cars. it helps traffic but it's a flat rate. >> getting to work is going to be a potential nightmare for more than 21,000 people that work for ucsf. this san excerpt from a memo this issued to workers and managers. employees are encouraged to explore car-pooling, van pooling and telexhuilgt from home if feasible to arrange flexible work schedules temporarily. kaiser ser now trying to make sure their employees get to work and medical services do not suffer. one tflt may not be available. a.c. transit workers

>> katie: welcome back. it's 8:14 this morning and you are looking live at mount tam cam, highs are in the 80s. san francisco is going to get in the 80s later today, as well. napa is going to see 99 degrees. lots of hot spots, lots of warnings so be careful as you plan your day. it will be a scorcher. lisa will have more coming up in just a little bit. >> in san jose they are investigating the death of a four-year-old boy who drowned in a community swimming pool. shortly before 6:00 they found the child unconscious at the county fair mobile home park. no foul play is suspected. >> a concord school teacher is accused of sexually abusing students at school.

45-year-old joseph martin teaches fourth and fifth grade in concord. police begin investigating martin in april after getting reports he touched students inappropriately. they say there could be a dozen possible victims ranging in age from 11 to 17. martin is being held at the martinez jail on almost $4 million bail. >> this morning, pg&e is offering a $10,000 reward for the arrest of three men that robbed a utility crew. it happened on eighth street in oakland. crew was working in a ditch when the men approached. they put a gun to the head of one of the victims and took their wallet. >> starting monday californians will pay the highest gasoline tax in the nation. it will increase to 72 cents a gallon. expect to see more food trucks like these in neighborhoods.

ed lee signed the bill for new rules. they will have to park 75 feet from waste from brick and mortar restaurants but they will be set up closer to high school and even go on to college campuses. compromised legislation is getting good reviews from the golden gate restaurant association. this week marks the end of line the nextel known for walkie-talkie button. it's own by sprint and they are pulling the plug tomorrow. jonathan bloom found out, a bay area start-up is hoping to scoop up some of their customers. >> that sound will soon be a piece of history. nextel was the first phone to act like a walkie-talkie but sprint is shutting it down. >> sprint like other carriers need a lot of spectrum to build out on these services. >> they say there is new sprint brand that nextel

quickly. half moon bay, only 59. 61 in santa cruz. you'll see some low 90s. lake tahoe, 63 degrees. they saw a record yesterday of 89 and thunderstorms further south in the sierra nevada. 69 in santa rosa. napa at 70. you heard katie saying 99 in napa valley. you were at 58 a couple hours ago. 70 in union city. already the temperatures have warmed from our overnight lows and exploratorium camera, nice shot of the bay bridge. excessive heat warning right through tuesday. spare the air advisory for poor air quality around the bay. san jose, it has been sunny all morning long. temperatures are well into the 60s, close to 70 degrees. air quality is poor in the inland east bay and moderate, ozone levels will be increasing throughout next several days.

national weather service has issued this excessive heat warning and pretty much the entire bay area. even oakland could see a record. already two-four degrees warmer and afternoon highs should be 2-4 degrees warmer. 102 in morgan hill, how about 104 with high pressure building in from the east. it's going to stay here. we do have a weak system out of north that could bring temperatures down a couple degrees but monday and tuesday should be our hottest weather. 117 in vegas, 121 in palm springs. already it's near 90 in san joaquin valley. 101 in los gatos. 95 today santa clara and on the peninsula, all the 90s. 98 in redwood city. 75 in pacifica.

up in the north bay, 101 in calistoga. east bay, 90 in oakland. 95 castro valley. head inland, 105 in concord with antioch at 106. tomorrow's parade will be warm and 15 degrees above average. temperatures will be cooling, afternoon sea breeze. kind of a nice day here, but the look ahead shows that temperatures may be a couple degrees cooler tomorrow and then we're back to excessively hot. the 4th brings nor comfortable weather and by this time next week we should be around average. we'll let you know how hot it is going in your community. keep track of weather on

>> katie: two men wanted in connection with the murder case in the case against aaron hernandez have been arrested. one of them appeared in court this morning. he is charged in murder for the killing of odin lloyd.

he has pleaded not guilty and being held without bail. in the meantime, new england patriots are making after offer to fans for an aaron hernandez's jersey. they can exchange it it's through the weekend of july 6th and 7th and purchased on pro shop or purchased online. california highway patrol has added teeth to the graduation of ten new canine teams. they went through an intensive training course. teams will serve as both patrol and narcotics personnel. after their graduation yesterday, dogs and handlers displayed what they had learned. they will be assigned to 7 chp divisions throughout the state. >> it seems like the paino has turned up on in the strangest of places. ♪

with a quick look at the weather. >> good morning to you. hi, everyone. national weather service has issued an excessive heat warning for the north bay, east bay and santa clara valley and santa cruz mountains with inland temperatures in excess of hundred degrees. in and around the bay, looking for temperatures warmer than yesterday. oakland could see a record if they reach 90 degrees. around the bay, 80s and upper 80s with the coast, comfortable and afternoon sea breeze and plenty of 70s but we'll be in the upper 70s around point reyes and stinson. mid 70s half moon bay. that is the place to get into some cooling but inland once again today, not only over hundred degrees but a couple degrees warmer than that. brentwood and livermore, 105 and 106. this is prolonged heat wave, it will be with us for a while. we will stay cool at the coast but the air quality will be getting works day to day. we are looking maybe a

roberts that he supports gay marriage. new this morning, president obama has met with nelson mandela's family. first family arrived in south africa this morning. president met first with the country's current leader and then privately with family members. that meeting lasted about half an hour. he will not see the former south africa leader himself. among president obama's events today a townhall where he is receiving an honorary law degree. he says now is the time to act for climate change. he is promoting the plan he unveiled this week to counter the problem. he is calling on new standards to reduce carbon emissions. >> to reduce carbon pollution, i directed the epa to work with states and businesses to set new

standards that put an end to the limitless dumping from our power plants. we use more clean energy and waste less energy. >> under his plan the america will encourage developing nation to transition to cleaner sources. >> this morning a memorial service will be held in oregon for an emeryville man who presumably drowned after the bay to breakers race last month. the family said they will hold the event in portland despite never recovering his body. they combed local beaches after clothing and belongings were found at ocean beach on may 19 the. >> on monday we'll learn the punishment of an oil tanker pilot that crashed into the bay bridge in january. a state board is set to vote on disciplinary order against the captain. they say she was piloting the 752 foot ship when it hit a fender on the tower

of the bridge's western span. no oil was spilled but the incident caused more than $1.5 million in damage to the ship and bridge which has since been repaired. his license was temporarily suspended in april. >> a san francisco landlord who tenants say abused them he is charged with responding to a police officer from a 911 call from a tenant. here is vic lee. >> landlord norman sable faces felony charges he had scuffle he had with police. they responded to a tenant who says he broke into his apartment unit. he secretly recorded him cussing at him as he was kissing in the door. an officer responded broke his knee when he tried to subdue him. the landlord owns this apartment building. several tenants are suing

san francisco experienced the biggest price jump in the country with home prices going up 24% from april of last year to this year. walnut creek realtor says the booming market firsthand. houses are selling quickly with multiple offers and well above the asking price. >> my last two listings, one sold for $157,000 over list price and another one $121,000. >> and multiple bids? >> multiple, one had 29 offers. >> this is the latest listing, a 4,000 square foot home that went on the market 1 million $400,000. the first open house this weekend. sell earth market is being driven by a lack of inventory in many bay area cities and it's happening despite rising interest rates. >> interest rates are actually still excellent.

will change by then and around here a couple of days, but today we are starting the first day of an excessive heat warning. very little fog and no fog at all. golden gate bridge, temperatures are climbing quickly, 69 in san francisco and oakland. these two spots will be warmer today, but certainly cooler compared to the rest of the bay area. low 60s in half moon bay and santa cruz. comfortable at our coast but throughout the afternoon. here a lake tahoe, beautiful and lots of thunderstorms. today thunderstorms shift south. 63 there and we could see a high of 90 in sierra. 70 in napa. morning low was 58 degrees. higher elevations have had warmer weather at 75 in livermore valley. 73 in union city. los gatos, 74. it's going to be a hot and

excessive heat warning. hottest days, over hundred degrees inland and spare-the-air day today. this is east bay hills from vollmer peak toward the east bay, where yesterday it was hundred degrees in concord and today even warmer. we could see 105 and 106 in brentwood. so the ozone levels continue to increase day after day. you shouldn't mow the lawn, take a break the next couple of days. when the four corners high builds in westward, that is when we have the big time heat. we will have our sea breeze at the coast and temperatures will be comfortable. take a look at the west, not only california but vegas and into utah,

everyone over 100 degrees. 111 in fresno. bakersfield is at 88 degrees and it's not even 9:00 in the morning. throughout the week ahead, oakland, temperatures starting off tomorrow couple degrees cooler. a high of 90 today. mid-80s tomorrow. then we continue to warm but the cooldown heads our way by the middle of next week. san jose, i want to give you a perspective. back to the upper 90s on monday and mid 80s on friday. temperatures for the a's game, hot with the upper 80s. in fact that is 4:00 in the afternoon. we'll look for numbers around the bay to range from 75 in half moon bay, 80 in san francisco, 92, san mateo. 102, isn't rose. 105 in livermore. hottest days is monday and
